It definately aint money since its better in lowsec/nosec. The folks who stick 100% to empire had this nice little glass house gaurding their glass idea of being totally safe. Its kinda like in life when people go throughout it with the thought that nothing will happen to them because the police will save them. Yeh well i carry twin 1911's in real life because thats the smelliest load of bs ever.
Well, there seems to be alot of whining on both sides of the issue, eh? So, if we can get beyond the 5-year old players and get down to the nuts and bolts, let's do so.
EVE is, like many other multi-player games, two games in one that exist side-by-side. There is the PVP game, and the PVE game. Some players prefer one, while others perfer the other. The games that provide both allow a player to choose which way they will go, and EVE goes even further by allowing both to overlap (PVPs can attack players in Empire by wardecing them, while PVE are somewhat protected in lowsec space by Global Criminal rules), but the seperation of the two is necessary to keep both types of players playing the game.
What the Privateers did was to expose that the seperation between these two sides of the game was faulted, and they were willing to utilize several game mechanics to take advantage of this. CCP looked over the situation and the course warfare was taking across EVE (battles where hundreds of ships involved became the norm and not the exception), and decided this was not how they wanted their game played (and, yes, it is -CCP's- game, not the players).
If they want an area of the game where new players or those wishing not to PVP can play, then they certainly have the right to change the game for that, and the only alternative to a 'soft' solution (one that is player-driven) is the 'hard' solution of jettisoning one or the other player base from the game by either doing away with Empire space, or removing PVP from the game entirely. Both are also their rights, though either would radically change the game, if not kill it altogether.
What it boils down to is that the game changed, and, as the previous poster was so adamantly in favor of, players simply have to change with it. Note that if this solution does not have the desired effect, CCP will likely change it again, possibly even further along this road. As the issue involves hard performace issues with hardware as well as player preferences, the entire situation may change no matter what anyone wants, and we'll have to change again.
